Rio (pronounced "rye-oh") is a small village located in Columbia County, Wisconsin, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,119 people lived there. Rio is part of the larger Madison area.
The village is mostly found within the town of Otsego. Rio is known as "Camper Country USA" because there are many campgrounds nearby. You can find Rio halfway between the cities of Columbus and Portage along Highway 16.

Where is Rio Located?
Rio is in Wisconsin at coordinates 43°26′52″N 89°14′26″W.
The United States Census Bureau says that the village covers a total area of about 1.27 square miles (3.27 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.26 square miles (3.25 square kilometers), is land, and a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.02 square kilometers), is water.

Rio's population has changed quite a bit over the years. In 1870, only 300 people lived there. By 1910, the population had more than doubled to 704. After a slight dip, it slowly grew again, reaching 1,059 people in 2010 and 1,119 in 2020.

Most people in Rio were White (97.7%). A small number of people were African American, Native American, or Asian. About 1.4% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.

The average age in Rio was 35.8 years old. About 26.7% of residents were under 18, and 13.3% were 65 or older. Slightly more than half of the residents (51.6%) were female.

Rio has a small public airport called Gilbert Field (94C). It has a grass runway that runs east to west. The Rio Aero Club Inc. owns and operates this airport. Every year, the Rio Aero Club Inc. hosts a fun "fly-in breakfast" event where pilots fly in for breakfast.

- Debbie McCormick is an Olympic curler who comes from Rio. Curling is a sport played on ice.
