Rio Linda is a place in Sacramento County, California, United States. Its name comes from the Spanish words Río Linda, which mean "Pretty River." It is part of the larger Sacramento metropolitan area.
In 2010, about 15,106 people lived in Rio Linda. This was an increase from 10,466 people in 2000.

History of Rio Linda
The area where Rio Linda is located was once part of a large Mexican land grant called Rancho Del Paso. This grant was given out in 1844.
In 1910, a company from Minneapolis bought about 12,000 acres of this land. By 1912, the area was divided into smaller plots. It was first known as 'Dry Creek Station'. This was a stop for the Northern Electric Railroad.
In 1913, the name was changed to Rio Linda. Early settlers, many of whom were from Scandinavian and German backgrounds, began to arrive. By 1918, about 50 families lived in the community.
By the 1920s, raising chickens for eggs and meat (poultry farming) became very popular here. Rio Linda became well-known for its excellent poultry production.

In 2010, the population of Rio Linda was 15,106 people. Most people, about 77.1%, were White. Other groups included African American (4.1%), Native American (1.6%), and Asian (4.4%). About 20.1% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
Most people in Rio Linda live in homes with their families. About 40.6% of households had children under 18 living there. The average household had about 3 people.
The population includes people of all ages. About 27.1% were under 18 years old. About 10.4% were 65 years or older. The average age in Rio Linda was about 35.9 years.
