Robb-Davon Butler, born on September 14, 1981, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back, even spending a season with the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). He was a top athlete in high school, playing both football and track for three years. In 1998, his senior year, he was recognized as an All-State football player.

Robb played college football at the University of Pittsburgh as a cornerback. Later, he moved to Robert Morris University, where he became a wide receiver. In 2003, he switched to strong safety and was named a first-team Division I-AA All-American. After college, he signed with the Chargers in 2004. He played in five games, making seven tackles. He also played for other teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs.

Early Life and High School Football

Robb Butler was a three-year top athlete at Perry Traditional Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He played both receiver and defensive back. In 1998, he earned first-team All-State honors. He was also chosen for the 1999 AAA Pennsylvania Big 33 Team. This team played in the famous Big 33 Football Classic.

He was named to special teams like the 1998 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Fabulous 22" Team. He also made the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review/Fox Sports Pittsburgh "Terrific 25" Team. Robb was twice recognized as a first-team All-Pittsburgh City League player.

During his senior year, Robb caught 35 passes for 631 yards. He scored 14 touchdowns in total. This included two punt returns, two kick returns, and one interception return for a touchdown. He had six interceptions in his junior year and six more in his senior year. He helped his team win the City League championship in 1997 and 1998.

Robb also played track and field for three years at Perry. He played football with Rod Rutherford, who later became his teammate at the University of Pittsburgh. Robb chose to play for Pittsburgh after visiting several other universities.

College Football Journey

Robb Butler played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers from 1999 to 2000. He was a backup cornerback and played on special teams. In 1999, he played in the last eight games of the season. He made five solo tackles and helped defend two passes. He even broke up a pass in the end zone during the final play ever at Pitt Stadium.

In 2000, his second year, he played in ten games. After this season, he changed positions to wide receiver.

In August 2001, Robb transferred to Robert Morris University. He had to sit out the 2001 season. From 2002 to 2003, he started in all 20 games for the Robert Morris Colonials. In 2002, he caught 29 passes for 459 yards, leading his team.

In 2003, Robb switched to strong safety. He made 84 tackles, two interceptions, and forced two fumbles. For his great play, he earned first-team Division I-AA All-American honors.

Professional Football Career

After the 2004 NFL draft, Robb Butler signed with the San Diego Chargers on April 25, 2004. He was the fifth player from Robert Morris to sign an NFL contract. The Chargers released him on September 5, but signed him to their practice squad the next day. On November 30, 2004, he joined the Chargers' main roster.

Robb played in five games for the Chargers during the 2004 season. He made three solo tackles and four assisted tackles. He also returned two kickoffs for 35 yards. The Chargers released him on September 3, 2005.

On November 11, 2005, Robb joined the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens. He was moved to their main team on December 30. He signed again with the Ravens in May 2006 but was released in September.

In February 2007, he signed a two-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he was released by the Chiefs on September 2, 2007.

Robb then played in the Arena Football League. He signed with the Kansas City Brigade in November 2007. He played for them during the 2008 season. He made eleven solo tackles and one interception for the Brigade.

In May 2008, Robb signed with the Erie RiverRats in the American Indoor Football Association. He played with his former high school and college teammate, Rod Rutherford, on this team. In December 2008, Robb signed with the Wheeling Wildcats of the Continental Indoor Football League. He played for them in the 2009 season, again with Rod Rutherford.

Life After Football

After his football career, Robb Butler worked for PPG Industries. He also earned an MBA degree from Olin Business School.

As of 2020, Robb was a coach at Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California. He coached the wide receivers and defensive backs. His son, Aaron, is also a talented football player. Aaron committed to play for the Colorado Buffaloes football team for the 2024 class.
