Early Life and Acting Journey
Robert Patrick was born in Marietta, Georgia, on November 5, 1958. He grew up in several different cities. These included Boston, Massachusetts, and Cleveland, Ohio. He is the oldest of five children. His brother, Richard Patrick, is well-known as the lead singer of the rock band Filter.
Patrick did not plan to be an actor when he was young. He didn't even like acting in school plays! He went to Bowling Green State University and played sports. But he found his passion for drama there. He left college to pursue acting. After college, he worked as a house painter. He moved to Los Angeles when he was 26. He worked as a bartender and sometimes lived in his car. Soon after, he started getting his first movie roles.
Becoming a Star Actor
Robert Patrick started his acting career in smaller science-fiction and action movies. These films were often made on a low budget. He said these early roles helped him learn a lot about filmmaking. They also helped him join the Screen Actors Guild, which is important for actors.
His first big Hollywood movie was Die Hard 2. He had a small part as a bad guy. Then came the role that made him famous: the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). The movie's director, James Cameron, chose Patrick because of his look. Patrick was not well-off at the time. He says this movie really launched his career.
Because he liked martial arts, Patrick starred in two martial arts films in 1994. These were Double Dragon and Hong Kong 97. He even had a fight scene with a taekwondo master in an earlier film.
His acting in the movie Fire in the Sky caught the eye of The X-Files creator Chris Carter. This led to Patrick being cast as John Doggett in The X-Files in 2000. His brother, Richard, had already worked on the show's music. Patrick was a main character for two seasons until the show ended.
In 2004, he appeared in the TV show Stargate Atlantis. He played Colonel Marshall Sumner. He liked this role because he had worked with the same crew before on The Outer Limits.
