Rodger P. Saffold III, born on June 6, 1988, is an American professional football player. He plays as a guard in the National Football League (NFL). The St. Louis Rams picked him in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Early Life and High School Football
Rodger Saffold grew up in Bedford, Ohio. He went to Bedford High School. There, he played both offense and defense. He was an offensive tackle and a defensive end.
In 2005, he was named first team All-Lake Erie League. He also received all-district honors. Saffold was recognized as an honorable mention all-state player. He recorded 18 tackles during his senior year.
College Football Career
Saffold played college football at Indiana University. He quickly became a starter. He played as a left tackle during his first year. He started 41 games and played in 42 games during his college career.
His strong performance earned him recognition. The conference coaches selected him for the second team All-Big Ten. He was also named honorable mention by the league's media.
Professional Football Journey
Playing for the Rams
The St. Louis Rams chose Rodger Saffold in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was the 33rd player picked overall. In July 2010, he signed his first professional contract.
Saffold quickly became the starting left tackle for the Rams. He played in every game during his rookie season. Many experts praised his performance. He was named to several All-Rookie teams. This included teams from Pro Football Weekly and the Sporting News.
In 2010, Saffold was the only rookie to start all games at left tackle. He helped Steven Jackson rush for over 1,000 yards. Saffold continued to play for the Rams, moving to different positions on the offensive line. He played left tackle, right tackle, and mostly left guard.
In 2014, Saffold briefly signed with the Oakland Raiders. However, he returned to the Rams due to a disagreement about his physical condition. He then signed a new contract with the Rams. By 2018, Saffold was one of the top offensive guards. He helped the Rams reach Super Bowl LIII. They played against the New England Patriots but lost the game.
Time with the Tennessee Titans
In March 2019, Saffold joined the Tennessee Titans. He signed a four-year contract with the team.
In 2019, Saffold started all 16 games for the Titans. He helped Derrick Henry become the league's leading rusher. The Titans made it to the playoffs that year. Saffold started all three playoff games. He helped Henry run for many yards in the first two games. The Titans eventually lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.
Saffold continued as the starting left guard in 2020. He started all 16 games again. He helped Henry win his second rushing title. Henry also became the eighth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. The Titans won their division with an 11-5 record. Saffold played in the playoff game where the Titans lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Titans released Saffold in March 2022.
Playing for the Buffalo Bills
Rodger Saffold signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills in March 2022. He continued to play well. In January 2023, Saffold was chosen for his second Pro Bowl as an alternate player.
Recent Teams
In October 2023, Saffold joined the New York Jets practice squad. He was released from the Jets in January 2024. The very next day, he signed with the Cleveland Browns practice squad. After the season ended, he became a free agent.
