Rodger P. Saffold III (born June 6, 1988) is an American professional football player. He plays as a guard in the National Football League (NFL). The St. Louis Rams picked him in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft. Before that, he played college football for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Early Life and High School Football

Rodger Saffold went to Bedford High School in Bedford, Ohio. There, he played on the offensive line as an offensive tackle. He also played on defense as a defensive end.

In 2005, he was named to the first team All-Lake Erie League. He also earned all-district and honorable mention all-state honors. This high school was also home to other NFL players like Chris Chambers and Lee Evans.

College Football Career

Saffold played college football for the Indiana Hoosiers. He became a starter at left tackle during his first year. He never left the starting lineup after that.

He started 41 games and played in 42 games during his college career. In 2009, he was named to the second team All-Big Ten by the conference coaches. This showed he was one of the best players in his college league.

The St. Louis Rams chose Saffold in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the 33rd player picked overall. In July 2010, he signed a four-year contract with the team.

Saffold quickly became the starting left tackle for the Rams. He started every game in his first year. Many experts praised his play, and he was named to several All-Rookie teams. He was the only rookie in 2010 to start all games at left tackle. He helped Steven Jackson rush for over 1,000 yards that season.

In 2011, Saffold played in 9 games before an injury ended his season early. He returned in 2012 and started the last 10 games. In 2013, he played in 12 games and started 9. He moved around the offensive line, playing left tackle, right tackle, and right guard.

From 2014 to 2016, Saffold continued to be a key part of the Rams' offensive line. He mostly played left guard, but also saw time at right guard and right tackle. In 2014, he played and started all 16 games.

In 2014, Saffold briefly signed with the Oakland Raiders. However, after a disagreement about his physical condition, he returned to the Rams. He then signed a new five-year contract with them. In 2018, Saffold helped the Rams reach Super Bowl LIII. They played against the New England Patriots but lost the game 13–3.

Tennessee Titans

On March 14, 2019, Saffold signed a four-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. He quickly became their starting left guard.

In 2019, Saffold started all 16 games for the Titans. He helped Derrick Henry become the league's leading rusher. The Titans finished the season with a 9-7 record and made the playoffs. Saffold started all three playoff games, helping Henry run for almost 200 yards in the first two. The Titans lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

In 2020, Saffold remained the starting left guard. He started all 16 games again. He helped Derrick Henry win his second rushing title, as Henry became only the eighth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season. The Titans won their division with an 11-5 record. Saffold started in the playoff game where the Titans were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens.

The Titans released Saffold on March 10, 2022.

Buffalo Bills

On March 14, 2022, Saffold signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. On January 30, 2023, he was chosen for his second Pro Bowl as an alternate player.

New York Jets

On October 31, 2023, Saffold joined the New York Jets practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. He was released by the Jets on January 2, 2024.

Cleveland Browns

On January 3, 2024, Saffold was signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad. He became a free agent after the season ended.

Esports Involvement

Outside of football, Rodger Saffold is involved in the world of video games. He owns a competitive Call of Duty team called Rise Nation. He bought the team in April 2014.
