Roger Binny's Cricket Career
Roger Binny is well-known for his amazing bowling skills. He was the highest wicket-taker in two major tournaments. He took 18 wickets in the 1983 Cricket World Cup. He then took 17 wickets in the 1985 World Series Cricket Championship in Australia.
Test Cricket Debut
Binny played his first Test cricket match in Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This was against Pakistan in 1979. He had a unique bowling style because he used to be a javelin thrower. He was also a good all-rounder, scoring 46 runs in his first match.
Key Bowling Performances
Binny became a very useful Test bowler. He helped India win a match against England in 1986 by taking seven wickets. In 1987, he had his best Test figures against Pakistan in Calcutta, taking 6 wickets for 56 runs. He and fellow fast bowler Karsan Ghavri helped take the shine off the new ball, making it easier for India's spin bowlers.
All-Rounder Skills
Binny was also known for his strong batting when the team needed it most. He, along with Ghavri and Madan Lal, often saved matches for India. In 1983, he scored an unbeaten 83 runs against Pakistan in Bengaluru. This was part of a record 155-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Madan Lal. Binny was tall and athletic, making him an excellent fielder too.
World Cup Hero
Even though he was often in and out of the Indian team, Binny proved how valuable he was during the 1983 Cricket World Cup in England. Under the leadership of Kapil Dev, Binny and Madan Lal helped India win its first World Cup title. Binny took a record 18 wickets in that tournament.

After his playing career, Roger Binny moved into coaching and cricket administration.
