Roger Dwayne Pierce (born in 1951) is an American diplomat who has worked for the U.S. Department of State for many years. A diplomat is someone who represents their country in other nations, helping to build good relationships and solve problems.
As of 2008, Mr. Pierce was a special advisor on foreign policy for the United States Special Operations Command. This means he helped guide how the U.S. military works with other countries. Before that, he was the U.S. Ambassador to Cape Verde, an island nation off the coast of Africa, from 2005 to 2008. Mr. Pierce started his career as a diplomat in 1978. He has worked in many different countries around the world.
Working Around the World
He served as a consular officer in Mexico City (Mexico) and Santiago (Chile). A consular officer helps citizens from their home country who are traveling or living abroad, like helping with passports or emergencies.
Later, he became the chief of the Consular Section in Calcutta (India) and Istanbul (Turkey). He also served as the main officer in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and the Consul General in Cairo (Egypt). A Consul General is in charge of a consulate, which is like a smaller embassy that focuses on helping citizens and promoting trade.
Roles in the United States
Mr. Pierce also held important jobs within the State Department in the U.S. He worked in the Office of Caribbean Affairs, where he focused on countries like the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Cayman Islands.

In 1995, he graduated from the U.S. Army War College, which is a special school for military and civilian leaders. He also completed the 44th Senior Seminar, which is the highest-level training program for leaders and managers in the State Department.
