Roger Howarth (born September 13, 1968) is an American actor. He is well-known for his roles in popular daytime TV shows, often called "soap operas." He played the character Todd Manning on One Life to Live (OLTL). This role helped him win a Daytime Emmy Award in 1994. Many people consider this character a very important part of soap opera history.
After leaving OLTL in 2003, Roger joined another soap opera called As the World Turns. There, he played the character of Paul Ryan until the show ended in 2010. He returned to OLTL in 2011 and then continued playing Todd Manning on General Hospital in 2012. Due to some legal issues, Roger and other actors had to leave their roles in 2013. However, they soon returned to General Hospital as new characters. Roger came back as Franco, a character first played by James Franco. When Franco's story ended in 2021, Roger returned a few months later as a new character, Austin Gatlin-Holt. Besides his work in soap operas, Roger has also appeared in other TV shows like Prey, The Flash, and Dawson's Creek.

Early Life and Interests
Roger Howarth was born in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. His father was involved in theater and wrote plays, so Roger grew up around the arts. He performed in a play called The Grand Duke when he was only seven years old. In high school, he was very active in the drama club and acted in many school plays.
Roger also loved soccer. He played from a young age until he was 19. He even had the chance to play in other countries with the Puma Shoes U.S. National Soccer Team. He played in Europe and Brazil with an amateur team, meaning he didn't get paid to play.
Even though he loved acting, Roger first thought about a different career. He studied political science at George Washington University. But after just one semester, he decided to follow his passion for acting. He left college to join an intense acting program at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center in Connecticut.
Roger's Acting Journey
Roger Howarth's acting career began when he was discovered during a nationwide talent search. He was cast as Kent Winslow in the ABC daytime show Loving. This role was short, but it quickly led to his next big opportunity.
Becoming Todd Manning
Soon after Loving, Roger was cast in One Life to Live as the character Todd Manning. This role was only supposed to be for a short time, but Todd became one of the most successful and long-lasting characters in soap opera history. Roger played Todd on and off starting in 1992. He received a lot of praise for his work and won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1994 for the role.
Roger left One Life to Live in 1995 because he felt uncomfortable with some of the storylines for his character. He later returned, and his character Todd became very popular when paired with Kassie DePaiva's character, Blair Cramer. They became a "supercouple" – a very popular romantic pairing on the show. While working on OLTL, Roger also appeared in the sci-fi series Prey as Randall Lynch for four episodes.
Exploring Other Roles
In 1998, Roger left One Life to Live again to try other acting projects. He performed on Broadway and in Hollywood movies. He made his Broadway debut in The White Rose. He also acted in other plays like Henry IV, Passions, You Touched Me, Mother Courage, and Orestes. A notable stage role for Roger was in James Goldman's Broadway play The Lion In Winter in 1999, where he acted alongside famous stars like Stockard Channing and Laurence Fishburne.
In 2000, Roger returned to One Life to Live. He also played Professor Greg Hetson on the TV series Dawson's Creek in 2003 during a short break from OLTL. Later that year, he decided it was time to move on from the role of Todd. He then joined the CBS daytime show As the World Turns in July 2003, taking over the role of Paul Ryan.
Return to Soap Operas
In 2011, it was confirmed that Roger Howarth would return to One Life to Live. He was excited to come back and see how the story would unfold. He made his onscreen return on May 13, 2011.
Roger, along with actors Michael Easton and Kristen Alderson, appeared on General Hospital from 2012 to 2013. Due to legal reasons, they had to leave their original characters from One Life to Live. However, they soon returned to General Hospital as new characters.
On May 29, 2013, Roger's new character on General Hospital was revealed. He was cast as Franco, taking over the role that James Franco had originally played. Roger was a full-time cast member. The character of Franco was written off the show in March 2021. Roger temporarily left General Hospital but returned on May 27, 2021, in the role of Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt. In November 2023, Roger announced he would be leaving General Hospital.
