Roger Machado Marques (born on March 4, 1975) is a Brazilian football coach and former player. He played as a left back. Roger is currently the head coach for Internacional.
Roger Machado spent most of his playing career with Grêmio. He played for this club for ten years. After he stopped playing football with Fluminense in 2008, he became a coach. He has notably coached both Grêmio and Fluminense, his former teams.

Playing Career Highlights
Starting at Grêmio
Roger Machado grew up in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He started playing football in the youth teams of Grêmio. He made his first team debut for Grêmio in 1994. He quickly became a regular player for the club.
Winning Big Titles
Roger was part of one of Grêmio's most successful periods. During his time there, the team won important championships. They won one Série A title, which is Brazil's top football league. They also won one Copa Libertadores, a major South American club competition.
Playing Abroad and Retirement
In 2004, Roger Machado moved to Japan. He joined J1 League team Vissel Kobe. He played there for two years. In 2006, he returned to Brazil and joined Fluminense. He continued to play regularly for them. Roger retired from playing football in 2008.
Playing for Brazil
Roger Machado played one game for the Brazilian national football team. This happened on June 12, 2001. It was a match against Mexico in the Copa América tournament.
Managerial Career Highlights
Becoming a Coach
After retiring as a player, Roger Machado returned to his first club, Grêmio. He became an assistant manager there on January 5, 2011. He left Grêmio in December 2013. Soon after, on February 19, 2014, he became the manager of Juventude.
Coaching Different Clubs
Roger was the manager of Juventude until July 28, 2014. Then, on December 19, he was named manager of Novo Hamburgo. On May 26, 2015, he took over as manager of Grêmio, replacing Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Success and Challenges
Roger led Grêmio to a great third-place finish in the 2015 league season. He was praised for his smart tactics. However, after a difficult period, he resigned on September 15, 2016.
On December 2, 2016, Roger Machado became the manager of Atlético Mineiro. He signed a two-year contract. He left the club on July 20, 2017.
More Coaching Roles
On November 22, 2017, Roger was appointed manager of Palmeiras for the 2018 season. He was dismissed on July 26, 2018. His team went on to win the league title after he left.
On April 2, 2019, Roger Machado became the manager of Bahia. He was dismissed on September 2, 2020.
On February 27, 2021, Roger was named manager of Fluminense, another club he played for. He was sacked on August 21, 2021.
On February 14, 2022, Roger returned to Grêmio as manager. He was dismissed on September 1, 2022. On January 12, 2024, he went back to Juventude.
Current Role at Internacional
On July 17, 2024, Roger resigned from Juventude. The next day, he was confirmed as the new head coach for Internacional. He signed a contract to stay with them until December 2025.
