Roger Wayne Marshall (born August 9, 1960) is an American politician and doctor. He currently serves as a U.S. Senator for Kansas since 2021. Before becoming a Senator, he was a U.S. Representative for Kansas's 1st district from 2017 to 2021. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Marshall is also a former military officer. He worked as an obstetrician, which is a doctor who specializes in pregnancy and childbirth.

About Roger Marshall's Life
Early Life and School
Roger Marshall was born in El Dorado, Kansas. He went to Butler Community College and then to Kansas State University. There, he earned a degree in biochemistry. He later studied medicine at the University of Kansas and became a doctor.
Military Service and Other Work
Marshall served for seven years in the United States Army Reserve. He reached the rank of captain. Before becoming a politician, he was the chairman of the board at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He also worked as a vice president at Farmers Bank and Trust.
Roger Marshall in Congress
Serving in the U.S. House of Representatives
Marshall first ran for Congress in 2016. He won the election for Kansas's 1st congressional district, which covers a large part of western and northern Kansas. He was sworn into office on January 3, 2017.
While in the House, Marshall was part of several important committees. These included the Committee on Agriculture, the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and the Committee on Small Business. These committees deal with farming, science, and small businesses.
Becoming a U.S. Senator
In 2019, Marshall decided to run for a seat in the United States Senate. He wanted to take over the spot of Senator Pat Roberts, who was retiring. Marshall won the Republican primary election and then the general election in November 2020. He became a U.S. Senator on January 3, 2021.
As a Senator, Marshall is part of several committees. He works on the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He also serves on the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Views on Elections
After the 2020 presidential election, Marshall raised concerns about the election results in some states. He supported looking into the voting process. He was among a group of senators who voted against certifying the electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania on January 6, 2021. After the vote, he recognized that Joe Biden would be the next president.
Views on Health Care
Marshall supports changing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (often called Obamacare). He believes people should be able to afford private health insurance. He has also expressed concerns about expanding the Medicaid program in Kansas.
Views on the Environment
Marshall has stated he is not sure if climate change is happening. He supports reducing the power of the Environmental Protection Agency. He also supports the federal program that requires ethanol (made from corn) to be mixed with gasoline.
