Naming the Island
The island was first mapped by Bulgarian explorers in 2009. They decided to name it after a place in their home country. Rogozen Island is named after a settlement called Rogozen in northwestern Bulgaria. This name also connects to a very famous historical find: the Rogozen treasure. This treasure is a collection of ancient Thracian artifacts, which are very important to Bulgarian history.
