Romaine is a suburb located in the City of Burnie in north-west Tasmania, Australia. It's a place where nature and community life come together.

Nature and Green Spaces

Romaine has some lovely natural areas to explore.

Romaine Reserve

The Romaine Reserve is a large park, about 12.69 hectares in size. It stretches along the eastern side of the suburb, following Romaine Creek. This reserve has a mix of native plants, like tall mountain ashes and white gums, and some plants that were brought from other places. You can also find blackwood trees and man ferns here.

There are walking tracks in the reserve that connect to the nearby Brooklyn Reserve. It's a great spot for a walk or to enjoy the outdoors.

Romaine Creek's Special Crayfish

Romaine Creek is home to a unique freshwater crayfish called Engaeus yabbimunna. This special creature lives only in this area.

Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden

The Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden is a popular place to visit in Romaine. It was started in 1981 and is now a beautiful tourist attraction. A rhododendron is a type of flowering shrub, and this garden has many different kinds.

Romaine Primary School

Romaine Primary School opened its doors in 2012. Before that, in 2009, it was decided that three other primary schools – Acton Primary School, Upper Burnie Primary School, and Brooklyn Primary School – would join together to form this new school. Romaine Primary School was built on the same grounds as Parklands High School.

Parklands High School

Parklands High School moved to Romaine in 1966. Before that, it was located in a different area called Parklands.

Sports and Football History

The Romaine Football Club was formed in 1906 when the Emu Bay Football Club changed its name. Just three years later, in 1909, it changed its name again to the Burnie Football Club. Today, the football club is known as the Burnie Dockers Football Club.
