Romford Market is a big outdoor market in Romford, England. It's in the London area called London Borough of Havering. Imagine a place with 270 stalls selling all sorts of things! You can visit the market on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It opens at 8:30 AM and closes at 4:30 PM, or 5:00 PM on Saturdays.
Market History
The market started a very long time ago, in 1247. Back then, it was mainly a market for selling sheep. A special permission, called a Royal Charter, was given by King Henry III. This charter said that no other market could open close to Romford. The distance was about how far sheep could be driven in a day.
The market was even part of an important legal case in 1726. This case, called Keech v. Sandford, helped create rules about trust law in England. It was about people's duty to be loyal when handling someone else's property.
Romford Market has also been a filming location. Parts of a music video for the song "Voodoo People" by The Prodigy were filmed here. A movie starring Chris Kamara was also filmed at the market.
Getting to the Market
The market is a busy spot for London Bus services. Many bus routes stop here, connecting Romford to other parts of London. You can catch a bus to places like Canning Town, Leytonstone, Stratford, and Ilford.
The Market's Future
As of 2015, the Havering London Borough Council had plans to make the market even better. They wanted to build a new 'Market House' and change the layout. The goal was to offer even more different kinds of goods for sale.
