Ronald de Boer's Football Journey
Ronald de Boer started playing football at a young age. His first club was De Zouaven. In 1983, when he was 13, he joined the Ajax youth program. This was the start of his amazing career.
Playing for Clubs
Ronald de Boer played for several clubs during his career. He played for Ajax in two different periods (1988–1991 and 1993–1999). He also played for Twente (1991–1993), Barcelona (1999–2000), Rangers (2000–2004), Al-Rayyan (2004–2005), and Al-Shamal (2005–2008). In Qatar, he played alongside his twin brother Frank again.
Success with Ajax
During his first time at Ajax (1988–1991), Ronald won the Eredivisie title in the 1989–90 season. After playing for Twente for two seasons, he returned to Ajax in 1993. This was his most successful time as a player.
With Ajax, he won three Eredivisie titles in a row: 1993–94, 1994–95, and 1995–96. He also helped Ajax win the UEFA Champions League in 1995. They also won the 1995 Intercontinental Cup and the 1995 UEFA Super Cup that year. In 1996, Ajax reached the Champions League final again but lost.
In the 1997–98 season, Ronald won another Eredivisie title with Ajax. He also won the 1997–98 KNVB Cup, which is a major cup competition in the Netherlands.
Moving to Barcelona and Rangers
In January 1999, Ronald and his brother Frank moved to Barcelona. They joined their former Ajax coach, Louis van Gaal, there. Ronald played 33 league games for Barcelona and scored one goal.
In the 2000–01 season, Ronald decided to join Rangers in Scotland. Many other Dutch players were also at Rangers at that time. He scored his first goal for Rangers in a UEFA Champions League match. In the 2001–02 season, Rangers won the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup. The next season, 2002–03, was even better. Ronald helped Rangers win the league, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup. He spent four seasons with Rangers before moving to Al-Rayyan in Qatar.
Playing in Qatar and Retirement
Ronald de Boer played for Al-Rayyan and then Al-Shamal in Qatar. On 19 March 2008, he ended his contract with Al-Shamal and retired from playing professional football.
Playing for His Country

For the Dutch national team, Ronald played in different positions, including right-half, centre forward, and attacking midfielder. He was a very versatile player. While he was never officially the captain, he sometimes wore the captain's armband when the main captain (often his brother Frank) was not playing.
