Roquetas de Mar is a town located in the Province of Almería in Andalusia, Spain. It is a municipality known for its beautiful beaches and sunny weather. In 2016, it was the second largest town in its province by population. It was also the 14th largest in Andalusia and the 69th largest in all of Spain.

Weather and Climate

Roquetas de Mar has a very warm climate. It is mostly like a hot desert climate, but sometimes it can feel like a hot semi-arid climate. This means winters are very mild, and summers are very hot and dry.

During July and August, winds often blow from Africa. These winds make the temperatures even higher. Sometimes, dust storms from the Sahara desert can happen, but they are not very common.

Fun for Tourists

The main tourist area in Roquetas is called an 'urbanización'. This area has many hotels, restaurants, and shops. During the summer, it is a very popular holiday spot for people from Spain. Many visitors also come from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany.

Roquetas de Mar is one of the two biggest holiday resorts on the Costa de Almería. The other major resort is Mojácar.

Getting Around

The main highway, Autovía A-7, runs near Roquetas. A smaller road, the A-1051, connects the highway to the town.

Roquetas is the second largest town in Spain that does not have a train station. The largest town without a train is Marbella. In 2020, there was a plan to build a railway line. This line would go from Almería to Adra, passing through Roquetas and El Ejido.
