Rosario Green Macías (born March 31, 1941 – died November 25, 2017) was an important Mexican woman. She was an economist, a diplomat, and a politician.

She made history as Mexico's first female Secretary of Foreign Affairs. This means she was the main person in charge of Mexico's relationships with other countries. She held this role from 1998 to 2000 under President Ernesto Zedillo. Rosario Green also served as a Senator for Mexico from 2006 to 2012.

Rosario Green's Education

Rosario Green was a very educated person. She studied International Affairs at the UNAM university in Mexico. She also earned a master's degree in economics from El Colegio de México.

She continued her studies at Columbia University in the United States. There, she did special research on countries in Latin America. Rosario Green received two special honorary doctorates in the United States. One was in Humanistic Sciences from the College of New Rochelle in New York. The other was in Law from Tufts University in Massachusetts.

Working as a Diplomat

Rosario Green worked as a Diplomat for Mexico. She was an Ambassador to East Germany. An ambassador represents their country in another nation. She also worked for the United Nations, helping with political affairs and issues related to gender equality.

Leading Foreign Affairs

From January 1998 to November 2000, Rosario Green was Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs. She was the first woman ever to hold this important job. In this role, she represented Mexico on the world stage.

For example, she represented Mexico when Macau changed from being controlled by Portugal to China. She also helped negotiate a Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union. This agreement helped Mexico trade more easily with many European countries.
