Roseville is a small village located in the state of Ohio, in the United States. It is special because it sits in two different counties: Muskingum County and Perry County. The village is also found along a stream called Moxahala Creek.

In 2020, about 1,746 people lived in Roseville. It is part of the larger Zanesville area. The village also has its own branch of the Muskingum County Library System, which is a great place to find books and learn.

History of Roseville

Roseville was first planned out in 1812 by a person named Ezekiel Rose. When it was first created, it was called New Milford. However, by 1830, when people wanted to set up a post office, the name had been changed to Roseville.

By 1833, Roseville was growing. It had a gristmill, which is a mill that grinds grain into flour, and a saw mill, which cuts wood. Roseville officially became a village in 1840. Dr. James Little was chosen as the very first mayor of the village.

Pottery Production in Roseville

The area around Roseville became very well known for making pottery. Two famous pottery companies were located here.

The Roseville Pottery Company made beautiful art pottery. It was open from around 1890 to 1954. This company was one of the best at making art pottery in the early 1900s.

Another company, the Ransbottom Pottery Company, started in Roseville in 1900. Later, it joined with another company to become the Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery Company. This company stopped making pottery in 2005.

If you want to learn more about pottery, the Ohio Ceramic Center is a museum about pottery. It is located just south of Roseville.
