The Church's Story
Before the main church building was put up, a brick hall was built next to where the church stands now. This was in 1912. The church's community had grown too big for their old hall on Havelock Street. That old place was sold, and the land on Hay Street was bought. The plan was to build a new church, a hall, and a manse (a house for the minister).
The church is named after Daniel Ross. He was the minister for the West Perth Presbyterian community. Sadly, he passed away in 1917, the same year the church was finished. The whole building cost about £4,147 to build.
Who Built It?
The person who designed the church was James Hine. He was a very skilled architect. The main builder was R. A. Gamble. The church was built in a style called Federation Gothic Revival. This style often includes pointed arches and tall windows, like old cathedrals. Inside the church, there is a special room for a pipe organ. It has large display pipes that look like three tall towers.
Important People
A woman named Agnes Robertson was a long-time member of this church. She taught Bible classes to girls. She also became one of the first women to speak and lead services as a lay preacher.

Heritage Trail Plaque
This plaque explains more about the church's beginnings:
The West Perth Presbyterian Church was first
established in Havelock Street in 1898. However, as the
congregation swelled during the gold boom years of the
1890s and early 1900s, it was found to be too small.
The Ross Memorial Church was built during the First
World War (1914 - 18), largely as a result of the efforts of
the Reverend Ross, who died only a few months after its
completion in 1917.
Heritage Status
The Ross Memorial Church building is very important. It is officially listed with the Heritage Council of Western Australia. This means it is a protected "Heritage Place" because of its historical value. Its special number is 2235.
