How Rossmoyne Got Its Name
The name Rossmoyne was chosen in 1937. A land developer named V.W. Webb and his family had visited Scotland. They thought the name sounded nice and would be good for selling land in 1955. The name was officially approved for the suburb in 1960.
The Rossmoyne Pallottine Mission
In 1959, the Rossmoyne Pallottine Mission opened on Fifth Avenue. It was a boarding house for Indigenous Australian students. These students came from places like the Kimberley region and other country areas. They stayed at the mission while attending high schools in Perth. The mission was run by the Society of the Catholic Apostolate. It helped over 900 students between 1959 and 1991.
