Bull Creek is a suburb located in Perth, Western Australia. It's part of the City of Melville, which is a local government area. The suburb gets its name from a creek that flows into the Canning River.

History of Bull Creek

Before European settlers arrived, the land where Bull Creek is now was home to Aboriginal Australians from the Wadjuk Beeliar tribe. They used the wet areas, like swamps, to find food and fresh water during the summer. This area is very important to the Beeliar people and they call it Gabbiljee, which means "the watery place at the end of the river."

The name "Bull Creek" was officially chosen by the City of Melville Council in December 1968. The creek itself was named after an early settler named Henry Bull. He received a large piece of land, about 1.2 square kilometers (300 acres), nearby in 1830. Later that same year, an even bigger piece of land, about 5.2 square kilometers (1,280 acres), was given to Thomas Middleton. Most of the suburb you see today is built on this land. Sometimes, people incorrectly write the name as one word, "Bullcreek."

Schools in Bull Creek

Bull Creek has both government-run and private schools for students. There are two state primary schools: Bull Creek Primary and Oberthur Primary. For older students, All Saints' College is a private school located in the northern part of the suburb.

Students in Bull Creek can attend one of three state high schools. If you live north of Parry Avenue, you'd go to Rossmoyne Senior High School. If you live south of Parry Avenue, you'd go to Leeming Senior High School. Students living south of Parry Avenue and east of Wheatley Drive also have the option to attend Willetton Senior High School. There are also other private schools in nearby suburbs like Bateman, Murdoch, and Winthrop. Plus, Murdoch University is only about 2 kilometers away from Bull Creek.
