Rossville is a coastal area, meaning it's right by the sea. It includes a neighbourhood called Helenvale in its north-west part.
The Hope Islands
Just 10 kilometres (about 6 miles) off the east coast of Rossville are the Hope Islands. These islands are actually part of the Rossville area. There are two main islands, sometimes called East Hope and West Hope. Both islands are completely protected as part of the Hope Islands National Park.
Rivers and Ranges
Two rivers, the Annan River and the East Normanby River, start in the southern part of Rossville. They begin on the slopes of the Trevethan Range.

How the Hope Islands Got Their Name
The Hope Islands were named by Lieutenant James Cook on June 13, 1770. His ship, the HMS Endeavour, had gotten stuck on a coral reef nearby. After they managed to free the ship, Cook hoped they would be able to reach these islands. That's how they got their name!
Rossville State School Through the Years
The first school in Rossville, called Rossville Provisional School, opened around 1898. It became Rossville State School in 1909 but later closed in 1964. A new Rossville State School opened its doors on January 25, 1988, and is still helping kids learn today.
