Rostislav Olesz's Hockey Journey
Rostislav Olesz started his professional career in 2005. He played for the Florida Panthers in the NHL. On June 24, 2011, the Panthers traded Olesz to the Chicago Blackhawks. A trade means one team sends a player to another team. In return, the Blackhawks sent a player named Brian Campbell to the Panthers.
Time with the Blackhawks
On November 17, 2011, the Blackhawks sent Olesz to their minor league team. This team was the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League (AHL). Players are sometimes sent to minor league teams to get more playing time. Or they might go there to get back into shape after an injury.
Moving to the New Jersey Devils
On June 28, 2013, Olesz became a "free agent." This means his contract with the Blackhawks ended. He was free to sign with any team he wanted. The Blackhawks decided to end his contract early. This is called a "compliance buyout."
Soon after, on July 5, 2013, Olesz signed a one-year contract. He joined the New Jersey Devils. He started the 2013–14 NHL season with the Devils. However, he only played ten games and had two assists. An assist is when a player helps another player score a goal.
Playing in Europe
After a short time, the Devils sent Olesz to their AHL team. This team was the Albany Devils. After playing five games there, Olesz decided to leave North America. On November 21, he signed with SC Bern. This is a professional ice hockey club in Switzerland. He played for them for the rest of that season.
