How Rowse Honey Started
The story of Rowse Honey began in 1938 when Tony Rowse started keeping bees. He worked from a small shed in a village called Ewelme, in Oxfordshire. In 1954, he officially created the Rowse Honey Company.
Growing the Business
The company grew steadily over the years. In 1971, it became a Limited company, which is a type of business structure. By 1987, the company needed more space. They moved to a larger building in nearby Wallingford. That same year, Tony's son, Richard, took over running the family business.
New Owners Over Time
In September 2006, a company called Wellness Foods bought Rowse Honey for about 70 million pounds. Later, in March 2014, another company named Valeo Foods became the new owner of Rowse Honey.
Honey Packaging and Strength
Rowse honey comes in different types of containers. You might see it in glass jars shaped like a hexagon. It also comes in plastic bottles that look like a beehive, usually with green lids.
Understanding Honey Strength
On the jars, you'll find a special rating that tells you how strong the honey's flavor is. This helps you choose the honey you like best! The scale goes from:
- Mild
- Fairly Mild
- Medium
- Fairly Strong
- Strong
In December 2016, Rowse also released a new type of packaging in the UK. It was a "snap and squeeze" sachet, which made it easy to use honey on the go.
Different Kinds of Honey
Rowse offers many different kinds of honey for everyday use. These include:
- Pure & Natural Clear Honey
- Pure & Natural Set Honey
- Organic Set Honey
- Organic Clear Honey
- Fairtrade Clear Honey
- Light & Mild Honey
Special Honey Varieties
They also have special types of honey called monofloral honeys. This means the honey mostly comes from the nectar of one specific type of flower. Some of these include:
Rowse also sells honey imported from other countries, like Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, and Greece.
Fun Honey Flavors
For something a bit different, Rowse also creates novelty honeys with added flavors:
- Honey with Cinnamon
- Chilli Fusion Honey
