Roy Lee Rogers Jr. was born on August 19, 1973. He is an American professional basketball coach and a former player. Currently, he works as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Roy Rogers played college basketball for the University of Alabama. After college, he was chosen in the first round of the 1996 NBA draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. He played for four seasons in the NBA with teams like the Grizzlies, Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and Denver Nuggets. He also played basketball in other countries like Russia, Italy, and Poland.

After his playing career, Roy Rogers started coaching. He became an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets in 2008. Since then, he has coached for many other NBA teams. These include the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Roy Rogers has had a long and interesting career in basketball. He started as a talented college player, then moved on to play in the NBA. After his playing days, he found a new passion in coaching. He has helped many teams in the NBA and its development league.

College Days at Alabama

Roy Rogers played college basketball at the University of Alabama. His coach there was David Hobbs. Roy was known for his amazing ability to block shots.

On February 10, 1996, he tied an NCAA record. He blocked 14 shots in one game against Georgia. This was a huge achievement! He is also second all-time in Alabama's history for career blocked shots, with a total of 266.

In the 1995–1996 season, Roy was recognized as one of the best players. He was named first-team All-SEC. During that season, he averaged 13.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 4.9 blocks per game.

Playing in the NBA

After his successful college career, Roy Rogers was ready for the pros. He was a 6-foot-9-inch power forward. In the 1996 NBA draft, the Vancouver Grizzlies picked him as the 22nd overall player.

He played one season with the Grizzlies. Then, he was traded to the Boston Celtics. Later, he joined the Toronto Raptors. He also played for the Denver Nuggets. Roy played in 137 NBA games between 1996 and 2000. He averaged 4.8 points per game during his NBA career. After his time in the NBA, he played professionally in other countries, including Poland, until 2003.

Becoming a Coach

After finishing his playing career, Roy Rogers decided to become a coach. He started in the NBA Development League, which is now called the G League.

Coaching in the NBA D-League

Roy began his coaching journey in the 2004–05 season. He was an assistant coach for the Huntsville Flight. The next season, he joined the Tulsa 66ers. He then spent two seasons with the Austin Toros. These experiences helped him learn a lot about coaching professional basketball.

Moving to NBA Teams

In 2008, Roy Rogers became an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets. This was his first coaching job in the NBA. He later worked as a scout for the Nets for a short time. After that, he moved to the Boston Celtics as an assistant coach.

In 2013, he joined Jason Kidd's coaching staff with the Brooklyn Nets. The following season, he became part of the Washington Wizards coaching staff. From 2016 to 2018, he was an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets.

In 2019, Roy Rogers joined the Chicago Bulls as an assistant coach. In 2020, he became an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers. Since August 2, 2021, he has been an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.
