Discovering the Museum's Past
When Did the Museum Start?
Even way back in 1886, plans for Wolseley Hall included a spot for a museum! The museum we know today officially opened in 1983. This special event happened during a visit from H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

What Can You See Inside?

Queen Victoria's Special Scarf
One very special item is a scarf. It's an exact copy of one that Queen Victoria knitted herself! She made eight of these scarves during the Second Boer War. The original scarf given to a soldier from the RCR is now at the Canadian War Museum.
Other Cool Displays
You can also see a wooden cross from the famous battlefields of Flanders Fields. There's even a recreated World War I trench, which shows what life was like for soldiers. Another display shows a street scene from the Italian Campaign during World War II.
Vehicles and Artillery Outside
Outside the museum, you'll find a display of big military vehicles and artillery. This includes a Universal Carrier, a powerful 25 pounder gun, and a fast Lynx reconnaissance vehicle.
Medals of Heroes
The museum also proudly displays medals belonging to important figures. These include Brigadier Milton Fowler Gregg, who earned the highest military award, the VC. You can also see medals from General Charles Foulkes. He was the person who accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany in Europe on May 5, 1945, ending World War II there.
