The Royal Hawaiian Agricultural Society Medal was a special silver medal. A group called the Royal Hawaiian Agricultural Society gave out these medals. This group was active in the Kingdom of Hawaii during the 1850s. They presented the medal every year. It was given to the best entries in a competition. This competition showed off Hawaiian farm products.
The Society asked for these medals to be made. They were ordered through a person named Mr. Marshall. He contacted the director of the United States Mint. The request was approved. The medals were made after the Mint's regular working hours. We do not know how many medals were made in total.
What the Medal Looks Like
The front of the medal is called the obverse. It shows symbols of farming in the Hawaiian Islands. You can see sugar and coffee plants. There are also tools like a plow. Large tall ships are shown too. These ships represent trade. A rising sun is in the background. A palm tree is on the left. A royal crown sits at the top.
Around the edge, it says: "Royal Hawaiian Agricultural Society, Established A.D. 1850." This means the society started in the year 1850.
The back of the medal is called the reverse. It has a wreath design. Around the wreath, it says: "Premium for the best exhibited." The middle part was left blank. This space was for the prize category. It was also for the winner's name. The medal is made of silver and white metal. It is about 64.5 millimeters wide. It weighs around 82 grams.
