Ruben Enrique Douglas (born October 30, 1979 – died April 24, 2024) was a professional basketball player from Panama and the United States. He was a tall player, about 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 meters) and weighed around 210 pounds (95 kg). Ruben played as a point guard and a shooting guard during his career.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Ruben Douglas played high school basketball at Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in Burbank, California. He was known for scoring a lot of points during his high school games. Many people remember him as one of the best high school scorers in California's history.
College Basketball Journey
After high school, Ruben continued his basketball journey in college basketball. He first played for the Arizona Wildcats at the University of Arizona during the 1998–99 season.
Later, he transferred to the University of New Mexico. In his senior year (2002–03) with the New Mexico Lobos, Ruben was amazing. He led the entire NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) in scoring, averaging 28.0 points per game. Because of his great performance, he was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Mountain West Conference.
Playing Professional Basketball
After college, Ruben Douglas hoped to join an NBA team. However, he was not chosen in the 2003 NBA draft. This is called being "undrafted." But Ruben didn't give up on his dream. He decided to play basketball overseas in different countries.
He played for several teams in Europe:
- Panionios in Greece (2003–04)
- Virtus Roma and Fortitudo Bologna in Italy (2004–05)
- Dynamo Moscow in Russia (2005–06)
- Valencia in Spain (2006–09)
In 2010, he returned to play for Panionios in Greece again.
Winning the EuroCup
One of Ruben's biggest achievements was winning the EuroCup championship in 2006. He won this title with his team, Dynamo Moscow. Not only did his team win, but Ruben was also named the EuroCup Finals MVP. This means he was the best player in the championship games.
Ruben last played for Uşak Üniversitesi Belediyespor, a team in Turkey. He joined them in January 2012 and played his first game on January 8, 2012.
Ruben Douglas passed away on April 24, 2024, when he was 44 years old.
Playing for His Country
Ruben Douglas was also a proud member of the senior men's Panama national basketball team. He represented his country in a big international tournament, the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
