Geology Beach

Ruby Beach is a beautiful and unique beach located in Olympic National Park in the U.S. state of Washington. It is famous for its amazing rock formations and lots of interesting driftwood. This special place is part of Jefferson County and is easy to find right off Highway 101. It is about 27 miles south of the town of Forks.

Discovering Ruby Beach's Wonders

Ruby Beach is a fantastic spot to explore the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. It is one of the southern beaches within the coastal part of Olympic National Park. The beach offers stunning views and unique features that make it a popular destination.

Why is it Called Ruby Beach?

The beach gets its name from the tiny, sparkling crystals found in its sand. These crystals have a reddish color, much like real rubies. When you walk along the shore, you might notice these small, ruby-like specks shining in the sunlight.

Amazing Sea Stacks and Driftwood

Ruby Beach is well-known for its many sea stacks. These are tall, pillar-like rock formations that stand in the ocean, separate from the main coastline. They were once part of the land but were carved away by waves and wind over many years.

Like most beaches on the northern coast of Washington, Ruby Beach has a huge amount of driftwood. This wood is carried by ocean currents and washes up on the shore. You will see large logs and tree trunks scattered all over the beach. It creates a unique and wild landscape.

Nearby Destruction Island

About 4 miles southwest of Ruby Beach, you can see Destruction Island. This island is home to the Destruction Island Lighthouse. On a clear day, you can spot both the island and its historic lighthouse from the beach. It adds to the scenic views you can enjoy at Ruby Beach.
