Ruth Rix facts for kids
Ruth Rix (born in 1942) is an artist from Brighton, England. She loves working with many types of visual arts, especially painting. Her artworks are owned by private collectors.
Early Life and Education
Ruth Rix was born in Leamington Spa. Her parents were Jewish refugees who had to leave their home country. As she grew up, Ruth lived, worked, and studied in different cities like London, Leeds, York, and Vienna.
She studied art at places like Leeds College of Art and Central Saint Martins. She even spent two years learning from a famous sculptor named Fritz Wotruba in Vienna. Ruth's mother, Helga Michie, is the twin sister of the Austrian writer Ilse Aichinger. Because of this, Ruth grew up around many interesting artists and thinkers, such as Anna Mahler and Elias Canetti.
About Her Art Work
Ruth Rix uses different materials for her art. Some of her paintings are made with oil paints on canvas. Other pieces use a mix of materials on paper.
She gets ideas from other artists like Bill Viola, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Antoni Tàpies. Her art often shows places like staircases, landings, and rooms that seem to change. Sometimes, you might see people in her paintings, but often they are not there. Even without people, her art makes you feel like someone was just there, leaving a feeling behind.
Her Art in the Spotlight
In August 2006, Ruth Rix was featured in a British art magazine called Latest Art. This magazine had a special issue all about women artists from around the world and throughout history.
Ruth Rix was highlighted in a special section called "Phenomenal Women: 30 of the most exciting and groundbreaking female artists in the world." She was mentioned alongside very famous artists like Mary Cassatt, Tracey Emin, Frida Kahlo, Diane Arbus, and Barbara Hepworth.
Latest Art magazine said that Ruth Rix wasn't famous because she was "too busy exploring and painting to seek the limelight." This is why her work isn't usually found in big museums like Britain's Tate gallery. However, many important art collectors who know a lot about art have been buying her work for a long time.
On August 6, 2007, Ruth Rix was interviewed live at the Portobello Film Festival. She talked with artist Ernst Fischer during a part of the festival called "The World's Greatest Magicians." The festival program said that Ruth Rix, a painter known by art experts, was making a rare public appearance to show two of her artworks.
