Ryan Ford (born March 8, 1982) is a Canadian athlete who competes in two exciting sports: professional boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). He started his professional career in 2007. Ryan has fought for many big organizations like Bellator, the WSOF, and the MFC.

Ryan Ford's MMA Journey
Fighting in the MFC
Ryan Ford started his MMA career with the MFC. On February 22, 2008, at MFC 15, he won against Pete Spratt by using a rear-naked choke in the second round.
Later, on May 9, 2008, at MFC 16, Ryan defeated CJ Fernandes with the same move, a rear-naked choke, in the first round.
At MFC 17 on July 25, 2008, Ryan faced Pat Healy for the MFC Welterweight Championship. He lost this fight by an arm-bar submission.
Ryan continued to fight, and on September 28, 2008, at MFC 18, he beat Laverne Clark with a guillotine choke in the second round.
He had a rematch with Pat Healy at MFC 20 on February 20, 2009, again for the MFC Welterweight Championship. Ryan lost this fight by a split decision.
On September 10, 2010, at MFC 26, Ryan was defeated by Douglas Lima via armbar submission in the second round.
He then had another rematch with Pete Spratt at MFC 27 on November 12, 2010, winning with a rear-naked choke. Ryan left the Edmonton-based MFC organization twice because of disagreements about his contract.
Independent MMA Fights
Ryan Ford also fought for other groups. He joined The Fight Club in Edmonton. On March 19, 2010, at TFC 10, Ryan won against Tom Speer with a rear-naked choke in the first round. This win helped him keep his TFC Welterweight Championship.
On May 19, 2011, Ryan fought UFC veteran Karo Parisyan at MMA Live 1. In the third round, Ryan landed a knee that cut Parisyan's forehead. The fight was stopped by the doctor and referee, giving Ryan the win.
Aggression Fighting Championship
Ryan returned to the Aggression MMA organization on June 10, 2011, at AMMA 7: Confrontation. He defeated Nick Hinchcliffe in the third round by TKO (punches).
On September 16, 2011, at AMMA 8: Unfinished Business, Ryan lost to David Hulett by guillotine choke in the first round. On February 11, 2012, Ryan defeated Ricky Goodall at AMMA 9 with elbows, winning by TKO in the first round.
On March 23, 2013, Ryan fought for the renamed Aggression Fighting Championship in Edmonton. He defeated Brendan Tierney by KO in the second round at AFC 17.
Ryan then faced Michael Hill on July 5, 2013, at AFC 19. This fight was for the AFC Welterweight Championship. Ryan won by rear-naked choke in the fifth round, becoming the AFC Welterweight Champion.
Bellator Fighting Championships
Ryan Ford signed with Bellator and made his first appearance on May 4, 2012, at Bellator 67. He defeated Luis Santos by TKO (knees and punches) in the second round.
On November 2, 2012, at Bellator 79, Ryan fought Kyle Baker. Ryan won this fight by a unanimous decision.
World Series of Fighting
On December 5, 2013, it was announced that Ryan Ford signed a deal with World Series of Fighting’s Canadian branch. He was set to debut in early 2014.
Ryan made his WSOF debut at WSOF Canada 1 against Joel Powell. This fight was for the first-ever WSOF Canadian Welterweight Championship. Ryan won by knockout in just 53 seconds of the first round, becoming the champion.
Ryan was scheduled to fight Bristol Marunde on June 7, 2014, at WSOF Canada 2. However, he had to withdraw due to an injury during training.
Ryan faced Jake Shields in the main event at WSOF 14 on October 11, 2014. Although he knocked Shields down early, Ryan eventually lost the fight by rear-naked choke in the first round.
Ryan was also set to face Yushin Okami in a Middleweight fight for the main event of WSOF 21 on June 5, 2015. However, Ryan announced he had to pull out of that fight.
Unified MMA
On January 6, 2022, it was announced that Ryan Ford would return to MMA on March 4, 2022, at Unified MMA 43 against Dawond Pickney. He won the fight by triangle choke in the second round.
Ryan returned again on May 27, 2022, at Unified MMA 45, facing Robert Hale for the Unified MMA Super Welterweight Championship. He won the fight by technical knockout in the first round.
Ryan faced Fay Bursell on March 31, 2023, at Unified MMA 50. He lost this fight by rear-naked choke in the third round.
Ryan Ford's Boxing Career
Ryan Ford made his professional boxing debut on February 13, 2010. He won a four-round majority decision against Willard Lewis. On June 8, 2015, Ryan announced he was leaving MMA to focus on professional boxing.
On September 11, 2015, Ryan fought Gary Kopas for the KO Boxing promotion. He won a four-round unanimous decision.
On September 20, 2015, it was announced that Ryan would fight Antonio Dos Santos on October 16, 2015. He won by knockout in the first round.
On November 13, 2015, it was announced that Ryan would fight Alvaro Enriquez on December 4, 2015. He won by technical knockout in the second round.
On February 22, 2016, it was announced that Ryan would fight David Whittom on March 11, 2016. He won by knockout in the first round.
On April 22, 2016, Ryan faced former Thailand Olympic medalist Manus Boonjumnong. Ryan won by fourth-round technical knockout when his opponent could not continue.
On September 9, 2016, Ryan faced former World Boxing Council Cruiserweight Champion Victor Manuel Palacios. He won the fight by unanimous decision.
On October 29, 2016, it was announced that Ryan would face IBO Asia Pacific Light Heavyweight Champion Sam Rapira on February 17, 2017. This fight was for the vacant UBO Light Heavyweight Championship. Ryan won by TKO, becoming the UBO World Light Heavyweight Champion.
On November 10, 2016, it was announced that Ryan would fight Mario Baeza on December 2, 2016. He won the fight by unanimous decision.
On March 13, 2017, it was announced that Ryan would defend his UBO title for the first time against New Zealand fighter Robert Berridge on May 27, 2017. He won the fight by technical decision after an accidental head butt.
On August 10, 2017, it was announced that Ryan would face British fighter Anthony Yarde on September 16, 2017. This fight was for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Championship. However, on August 25, 2017, the fight was canceled due to a contract disagreement.
On September 6, 2017, it was announced that Ryan would face Joaquin Murrieta on September 9, 2017. He won the fight when his opponent's corner stopped the fight in the fourth round.
On November 17, 2017, it was announced that Ryan would face former WBA Super Middleweight Champion Fedor Chudinov for the WBA International Super Middleweight Title on December 9, 2017. Ryan lost by a twelve-round unanimous decision.
On February 9, 2019, Ryan faced Nick Hannig for the vacant WBC International light heavyweight title. Ryan lost by a twelve-round unanimous decision.
On April 6, 2019, Ryan faced German Olympic boxer Serge Michel. Ryan won the fight by knockout, earning the WBC International Silver light heavyweight title.
On August 31, 2019, Ryan faced undefeated Joshua Buatsi. The fight ended in controversy after what appeared to be a low shot from Buatsi. The fight was stopped, and Buatsi was awarded the victory by knockout.

Ryan Ford is married to Nina and they have two children: a son named Ryan Jr. and a daughter named Bella. His father, Al Ford, was also a professional boxer.
