Ryozo Suzuki (鈴木 良三, born September 20, 1939) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender for the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs

Ryozo Suzuki was born in Saitama, Japan, on September 20, 1939. After finishing his studies at Rikkyo University, he joined a football club called Hitachi in 1962.

In 1965, Hitachi became part of a new league called the Japan Soccer League. Ryozo played for Hitachi until he retired in 1970. During his time in the league, he played in 67 games and scored 5 goals.

Playing for Japan

Ryozo Suzuki first played for the Japan national team on August 15, 1961. He was still a student at Rikkyo University when he made his debut against Indonesia.

He was chosen to represent Japan at the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo. He played in every match during that tournament.

In 1968, he was again selected for the Japan team for the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Even though he did not play in any matches at these Olympics, the Japanese team won a Bronze Medal. This was a big achievement for Japanese football!

Ryozo also played for Japan in the 1962 and 1966 Asian Games. He played a total of 24 games for Japan until 1968.

Awards and Recognition

In 2010, Ryozo Suzuki was honored by being chosen for the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This special hall recognizes people who have made a great impact on football in Japan.

In 2018, the entire team from the 1968 Summer Olympics, which Ryozo was a part of, was also selected for the Japan Football Hall of Fame.

Family Life

Ryozo Suzuki has a famous great-niece named Chiharu Saitō. She is a member of the Japanese girl idol group called Nogizaka46.
