Music Style
Sơn Tùng M-TP grew up listening to traditional Vietnamese folk music called Quan họ. This music style influenced how he sings. He also listened to artists like Quang Vinh, Chris Brown, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber. The Vietnamese underground hip hop scene and K-pop groups like Big Bang also inspired him.
His early songs mixed pop, contemporary R&B, and hip-hop. Later, he started using electronic dance music (EDM) in his songs, like "Chúng ta không thuộc về nhau" (2016). Some of his songs also use traditional Vietnamese instruments. For example, "Lạc trôi" (2017) uses the đàn tranh and sáo. Because many of his early songs mentioned rain, people sometimes called him "the Rain Prince." Besides singing, Tùng also plays the piano and electronic keyboards.
