Madison Beer started her career by posting videos of herself singing cover songs on YouTube in early 2012. These videos caught the attention of superstar Justin Bieber. He shared a link to her cover of Etta James's "At Last" with his many followers. This made Madison Beer a trending topic worldwide on Twitter. She also received a lot of media attention.

Justin Bieber personally signed Beer to his record label, Island Records. At that time, she was managed by Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun. Beer also worked with Monster High and recorded their theme song, "We Are Monster High." In February 2013, Cody Simpson re-released his song "Valentine" with Beer. This song was played on Radio Disney.

On September 12, 2013, Beer released her first official single and music video, "Melodies." Justin Bieber even made a guest appearance in the video. Beer then started working on her first album. She said it would have pop and R&B influences. She wanted the album to include songs about different feelings and being true to yourself. However, this album was later not released.

"Unbreakable" was Madison Beer's second single, released on June 17, 2014. On February 16, 2015, it was announced that Beer would be featured on a new song by DJs Mako called "I Won't Let You Walk Away." This song was released on February 24, 2015, along with a music video. It performed well on dance and electronic music charts in the United States. On September 24, 2015, Beer released "All For Love" with the American duo Jack & Jack.
