A Look at Sabana Seca's Past

How Did Sabana Seca Become Part of the U.S.?

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. This made Puerto Rico an area connected to the U.S. but not a state.

Counting the People: Early Population Numbers

In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, found that only 737 people lived in the Sabana Seca barrio at that time. Over the years, the population grew a lot!

Understanding Barrios and Sectors

In Puerto Rico, a barrio is like a large neighborhood or a small town area. These barrios are then divided into even smaller parts called sectores. Think of sectors as smaller communities or blocks within a neighborhood.

Different Types of Sectors
