Sabina Yasmin, born on September 4, 1954, is a famous Bangladeshi singer. She is best known for singing in Bengali films. These songs are called "playback" songs because singers record them, and actors lip-sync them on screen. Sabina Yasmin has won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer a record 14 times. She has recorded over 1,500 songs for movies and more than 10,000 songs in total.
The government of Bangladesh has honored Yasmin with important awards. She received the Ekushey Padak in 1984. Later, she was given the Independence Day Award in 1996. These awards recognize her great contributions to music.

Early Life and First Songs
Sabina Yasmin was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on September 4, 1954. Her family originally came from Satkhira. Her father, Lutfar Rahman, worked in government service. Her mother, Begum Mouluda Khatun, was also a singer. She learned music from a teacher named Ustaad Kader Baksh.
Sabina is the youngest of five sisters. All her older sisters, Farida, Fauzia, Nazma, and Nilufar, are also singers. The first song Sabina learned was Khokon Moni Shona. In 1964, she began singing regularly on a radio show called Khela Ghar. P.C. Gomez taught her classical music.
A musician named Altaf Mahmud discovered her talent. He heard her singing while visiting a neighbor's house. Sabina started her playback singing career in 1967. Her first film song was Modhu Jochnar Dipali for the movie Agun Niye Khela. This film was directed by Zahir Raihan. As a child artist, she and another singer, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, won awards from President Ayub Khan.
Sabina Yasmin's Singing Career
Sabina Yasmin became very well-known with her song Shudhu Gaan Geye Porichoy. After that, she worked with Altaf Mahmud on films like Anowara and Nayantara. She also sang for movies such as Taka Ana Pai. Over time, she worked with many other famous musicians. These included Satya Saha, Subal Das, and Khan Ataur Rahman. She also collaborated with Alauddin Ali, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, and Gazi Mazharul Anwar.
Singing in the 1960s
Sabina Yasmin sang for films, radio, and television. She also recorded songs for music companies. She started her career in the film industry of Pakistan. She became famous when she sang a duet with Ahmed Rushdi. This song, Baharon ki yeh shaam, was for the film Anari in 1969.
Success in the 1970s
When Sabina Yasmin started in films, Shahnaz Rahmatullah was the top singer. In 1970, the film Jibon Theke Neya was released. It featured Sabina's song "Eki Sonar Aloy." This song helped her become a leading singer. She also sang many patriotic songs. Some of these include "Sob Kota Janala" and "Swadhinata Tumi."
In 1972, she gained more fame with "Sudhu Gaan Geye Porichoy" from the film 'Abujh Mon'. She sang duets like "Tumi Je Amar Kobita" with Mahmudunnabi. In 1975, she won her first Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. This was for her songs in the movie Sujon Sokhi. She then won three National Film Awards in a row. These were in 1978 for Golapi Ekhon Train E, in 1979 for Sundari, and in 1980 for Kosai.
Hits of the 1980s
Sabina Yasmin sang many popular songs in the 1980s. Some of these hits were "Koto Sadhonay Emon Bhagyo Mele" and "Shoto Jonomer Sadh." Her growing popularity led her to sing for Indian films too. In 1985, she sang "Cherona Cherona Haat" and "Jalpari" with Kishore Kumar. These songs were for the film Anyay Abichar, which had music by R. D. Burman.
Achievements in the 1990s
Yasmin continued to win awards in the 1990s. She earned National Awards in 1991 for Danga. She also won in 1992 for Radha Krishna. In 1994, another singer, Kanak Chapa, became popular with the film Tomakei Chai.
New Millennium Songs (2000s)
Even though Kanak Chapa was very popular by 2000, Sabina Yasmin still sang many hit songs. She worked with top music directors. She won another National Film Award for her song "Boroshar Prothom Dine" in Dui Duari (2000). In 2004, her song "Preme Poreche Mon" from 'Wrong Number' was very popular. She received her 12th National Film Award for 'Dui Noyoner Alo'.
Singing in the 2010s
In the 2010s, Sabina Yasmin sang a duet with Imran, a winner of Channel-I Sera Kontho. She also sang for new actresses like Apu Biswas and Sahara. Her song "Premiker Buk Jeno Sukher Nodi" was a top hit for many weeks.
Personal Life
Sabina Yasmin has two children. Her daughter, Fairooz Yasmin, is also a singer. Her son's name is Srabon. In 1998, she married Kabir Sumon, a musician and activist from India.
In July 2007, Sabina Yasmin faced a serious illness. She received treatment in Bangladesh and then in Singapore. After about three and a half months of treatment, she returned home.
