History of Sachse
Sachse was started by a man named William Sachse. He was an immigrant from Prussia, which is now part of Germany. He founded the city in 1845.
How Sachse Got Its Name
William Sachse bought a large piece of land, about 640 acres, in Collin County. He built the very first cotton mills and gins in the county. These were machines used to process cotton.
In 1886, William Sachse gave some of his land to a railroad company. The railroad then built a train station, or depot, on this land. They named the town "Sachse" after him.
For a while, the depot was accidentally labeled "Saxie." Because of this, some old legal papers called the city "Saxie." But this mistake was later fixed. The name "Sachse" comes from a German word meaning "Saxon."
