About Sadiq Sanjrani
Early Life and School
Sadiq Sanjrani was born on 14 April 1970. His hometown is Nok Kundi in Balochistan. He comes from a Baloch family. His family belongs to the Sanjrani tribe.
He went to school in Nok Kundi when he was young. Later, he moved to Quetta and then to Islamabad to continue his studies and get his degree.
His Journey in Politics
Sanjrani started his political work in 1998. He worked for the Prime Minister at that time, Nawaz Sharif. He continued in this role until 1999.
In 2008, he was put in charge of a special office. This office helped people with their complaints to the Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani. He worked there for five years.
Becoming Chairman of the Senate
In 2018, Sadiq Sanjrani was chosen to be a member of the Senate of Pakistan. He was an independent candidate from Balochistan. He officially became a senator on 12 March 2018. On the very same day, he was elected as the 8th chairman of the Senate of Pakistan.
He won with 57 votes out of 103 votes. He beat another candidate, Raja Zafar ul Haq, who got 46 votes. Many different political parties supported him. This included the Pakistan Peoples Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Sanjrani made history by becoming the first chairman from Balochistan. He was also the youngest chairman ever, at 39 years old. Before this, not many people knew him in Pakistan's politics.
Important Moments as Chairman
In September 2018, Sanjrani gave a speech. He spoke at the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. This was to celebrate their 100th anniversary.
In August 2019, some political parties tried to remove him. They wanted to take away his job as chairman. They presented a "no-confidence motion." This means they voted to see if he should stay in his position.
Even though 64 senators supported the motion, it did not pass. The parties trying to remove him only got 50 votes. They needed 3 more votes for the motion to succeed. So, Sadiq Sanjrani remained the chairman. This showed that many senators still trusted him.
In 2019, Sadiq Sanjrani became the first President of the International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC). This is a group that helps politicians from different countries work together. The IPC focuses on important global issues. These include peace, safety, and human rights.
On 12 March 2021, he was chosen again. He was re-elected as chairman of the Senate of Pakistan. He won against his opponent, Yusuf Raza Gilani.
