Sally Kirkland Jr. (born October 31, 1941) is an American actress and producer. She has been acting for over 60 years! Sally has appeared in more than 250 movies and TV shows.
She was once part of Andy Warhol's famous art studio, The Factory. She was also active in New York's exciting theater scene in the 1960s. Sally's mother, Sally Kirkland, was a well-known fashion editor for Life and Vogue magazines.
Sally Kirkland became very famous for her role in the movie Anna (1987). In this film, she played a former popular actress. Her performance won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. She was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She also won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for this role.
Later, she was nominated for another Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for her part in the horror film The Haunted (1991). You might also know her from movies like Cold Feet (1989), Best of the Best (1989), JFK (1991), and Bruce Almighty (2003).

Early Life and Beginnings
Sally Kirkland was born in New York City. She was named after her mother, Sally Kirkland. Her mother was a fashion editor for Vogue and LIFE magazines. Sally grew up in Oklahoma.
Her father, Frederic McMichael Kirkland, worked in the scrap metal business. Before becoming an actress, Sally started her career as a model for Vogue magazine. She then went on to study acting at the famous Actors Studio. There, she learned from great teachers like Lee Strasberg and Uta Hagen.
Acting Career Highlights
Early Roles (1962-1986)
Sally Kirkland started acting in plays in New York in 1963. These plays were often called "Off-Broadway" shows. In 1968, she returned to movies, appearing in the western film Blue. The next year, she starred in an interesting independent film called Coming Apart (1969).
During the 1970s and most of the 1980s, Sally played many supporting roles in movies. Some of these films include Going Home (1971), The Sting (1973), and Private Benjamin (1980). She also had a main role in the 1984 horror movie Fatal Games.
On television, she appeared as a guest star in many popular shows. These include Hawaii Five-O, Three's Company, Kojak, and Charlie's Angels.
Gaining Fame (1987-1999)
In 1987, Sally Kirkland earned a lot of praise for her role in the movie Anna. Critics called her performance "superb." The Los Angeles Times even said she was one of the best actresses of that decade. For this role, she won a Golden Globe Award and an Independent Spirit Award. She was also nominated for an Academy Award.
In the 1990s, Sally starred in the action comedy Bullseye! (1990) with Michael Caine. She also played supporting roles in big movies like JFK (1991) and The Player (1992).
On television, she had more success. She played main roles in several TV movies. In 1994, she starred in the TV show Valley of the Dolls. More recently, in 2019, she starred in the film Cuck. In 2020, she appeared in the Amazon movie Hope For The Holidays. She continues to act in various projects.

Sally Kirkland is also an ordained minister in the church of Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness. This means she can perform religious ceremonies.
