Salto is a small area, like a neighborhood, located in the town of Cidra, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 176 people lived there.

A Look at Salto's History

After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the Spanish in 1898. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but not a state.

In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people. This count is called a census. The census found that Salto and a nearby area called Rabanal had a total of 1,498 people living there.

Understanding Salto's Sections

In Puerto Rico, towns are divided into larger areas called barrios. You can think of barrios as being similar to big neighborhoods. These barrios are then split into even smaller parts. These smaller parts are called sectores (which means sectors in English).

Sectores can have different names depending on what they are like. Some might be called urbanización (a planned housing area), reparto (a land division), barriada (a settlement), or residencial (a residential complex).

Here are the names of the sectors you can find in Salto barrio:

  • El Mirador
  • Esperanza Rivera
  • González
  • La Tosca
  • Luto Félix
  • Luz María
  • Martín Ramos
  • Rivera
  • San José
