Salvador Mazza, also known as Profesor Salvador Mazza or Pocitos, is a city in northern Argentina. It is located in Salta Province, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) north of the capital city of Salta.

The city is also about 55 kilometers (34 miles) from Tartagal. It sits right on the international border with Bolivia. Important roads and railways connect Salvador Mazza to the rest of Argentina and to Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia.

Salvador Mazza is actually the northernmost city in Argentina. Many people mistakenly think La Quiaca in Jujuy Province holds this title.

In 2001, Salvador Mazza had a population of 16,068 people. This was a big jump from 9,387 people in 1991, showing a 71.7% increase. Today, it is thought that about 25,000 people live in the city.

Why Is It Called Salvador Mazza?

The city is named after Salvador Mazza. He was an Argentine doctor and scientist of Italian background. Dr. Mazza is famous for his work in fighting a disease called American trypanosomiasis. This illness was common among poor people in rural areas of early 20th-century South America.
