Salvador Water, also known as Port Salvador, is a large bay or inlet located on the northeast coast of East Falkland. East Falkland is the biggest island in the Falkland Islands. This bay has a very twisty and interesting coastline, which some people say looks a bit like the letter "M".

Several small towns and settlements are found along its shores. These include Teal Inlet, Douglas, Salvador, and Rincon Grande. Port Louis, which was the very first main settlement on the islands, is also quite close. It's located just across a narrow strip of land that connects to Berkeley Sound.

Salvador Water and the Falklands War

During the Falklands War in 1982, Salvador Water was one of the places the British forces thought about using for a major landing. This would have been a way to bring soldiers and equipment onto the island. However, the British decided to land their troops at San Carlos Water instead. San Carlos Water is located on the western side of East Falkland, along Falkland Sound.

Even though Argentine forces thought San Carlos Water might be a good landing spot for the British, the British military decided it was too shallow for their larger ships to enter safely. Brigadier Julian Thompson, a British commander, was reportedly in favor of landing at Salvador Water.
