Sam Retford (born June 22, 1999) is an actor from Australia and England. He is well-known for playing Cory Wilson in the TV show Ackley Bridge from 2017 to 2019. He has also been in other TV series like Casualty and Death in Paradise. In 2021, he joined the cast of the popular soap opera Coronation Street as Curtis Delamere.
Early Life and Dreams
Sam Retford was born on June 22, 1999, in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia. When he was young, his family moved to Crewe, England. He went to Brine Leas High School and later studied acting at The Lowry Actors Company. Before he became a professional actor, Sam had a different dream: he wanted to be a marine biologist and study ocean life!
Sam's Acting Journey
Sam started his acting career in small plays around Manchester. He appeared in shows like Lord of the Flies on stage. His first TV role was in 2014 in Hollyoaks: Tom's Life, which was a spin-off from the show Hollyoaks. He played a character named Nate for four episodes.
From 2017 to 2019, Sam became famous for his role as Cory Wilson in the school drama Ackley Bridge on Channel 4. This show was very popular.
In 2018, Sam also acted in a musical called Closets. The next year, in 2019, he performed in a play called Kings of Idle Land in London. Sam also took part in Diana Award events that help fight bullying. Later in 2019, he appeared in an episode of the BBC medical drama Casualty, playing a character named Tyler Begbie.
In 2020, Sam starred in a short film called S.A.M. He also appeared in the TV series Death in Paradise in 2021.
A big step in his career happened in May 2021 when Sam joined the cast of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. He played the character of Curtis Delamere. That same year, he was also in a musical film called White Wedding.
More recently, in February 2024, it was announced that Sam Retford will be in a new TV show called Outlander: Blood of My Blood. This show is a prequel to the popular series Outlander, and Sam will play Dougal MacKenzie.
