Geography: Where is San Carlos?
San Carlos is located in the southeastern part of Gila County. Its eastern edge is next to the San Carlos River. This river also marks the border with Graham County.
The San Carlos River flows south for about 8 miles (13 km). It then reaches San Carlos Lake, which is a large body of water created by a dam on the Gila River.
The community covers a total area of about 8.6 square miles (22.2 square kilometers). Only a very small part of this area is water. San Carlos is completely located within the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation.
