San Felices de los Gallegos is a small village and a large municipality in western Spain. It is located in the Salamanca province, which is part of the Castile and León region.
The village is about 102 kilometers away from Salamanca, the main city of the province. In 2018, about 413 people lived there. San Felices de los Gallegos is also found inside the beautiful Arribes del Duero Natural Park.
History of San Felices
San Felices de los Gallegos has an interesting past. In 1297, a special agreement called the Treaty of Alcañices was made. Because of this treaty, the village became part of the Kingdom of Portugal.
When it was part of Portugal, its name was São Felix de Galegos. Other Spanish towns like Hermisende and Olivenza also became Portuguese at that time. Portugal held control of San Felices de los Gallegos until 1327. They also briefly took it over again around 1370 and 1476.
