Sanborn's Early Days
Sanborn got its first post office in 1879. The city was named after J. N. Sanborn, who was an early settler in the area.
Sanborn once hoped to be the main city, or county seat, for Barnes County. However, it lost this chance to Valley City in 1880. Over time, Sanborn's population became smaller. This happened because better roads made it easier for farmers to go to Valley City for trade.
