Sand City is a small city in Monterey County, California. It sits right on the coast of Monterey Bay. The larger city of Seaside surrounds Sand City on most sides. Sand City is about 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Monterey. It is located at an elevation of 72 feet (22 meters) above sea level. In 2020, the city had a population of 325 people.
Sand City is mainly a place for businesses. It has several large retail stores. The West End area of Sand City used to be industrial. Now, it is home to a growing community of artists. Every August, artists from Sand City and nearby areas hold a street fair. It is called the "West End Celebration."

Sand City is located at coordinates 36°37′02″N 121°50′54″W / 36.61722°N 121.84833°W.
The city covers a total area of about 2.9 square miles (7.5 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.4 square miles (6.2 square kilometers), is water. This is because the city limits extend into Monterey Bay. The land area is only about 0.5 square miles (1.3 square kilometers).
History of Sand City
Sand City officially became a city in 1960. A post office opened in Sand City in 1961. However, it later joined with the Seaside post office. So, Sand City now shares Seaside's ZIP code (93955). The city has mostly been an industrial area throughout its history.
