Santonio Beard was an American college football player. He was born on February 14, 1980, and passed away on February 5, 2022. Santonio played as a running back for the University of Alabama. A running back is a player who carries the football. Their main job is to run with the ball and gain yards for their team.
Santonio had a great season in 2002. He ran for almost 900 yards that year. He also shares a special record at the University of Alabama. He scored five touchdowns in a single game! This amazing feat happened in 2002 against the University of Mississippi. He shares this record with famous NFL players Shaun Alexander and DeVonta Smith.
His most memorable game was in 2001 against the Auburn Tigers. In that game, Santonio and his teammate Ahmaad Galloway ran for nearly 300 yards together. This helped their team, the Crimson Tide, win against Auburn at Jordan–Hare Stadium.
Playing Football Professionally
After his college coach, Dennis Franchione, left the team, Santonio decided not to play his final year of college football. He hoped to join a professional team. He was not chosen in the NFL draft, but he signed with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League. He also played for the Denver Broncos for a short time.

Santonio Beard lived in Lithonia, Georgia. He passed away on February 5, 2022, at the age of 41.
