Saratoga is a lovely suburb on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It's like a small town, located on a piece of land surrounded by water called a peninsula. This peninsula sticks out into Brisbane Water. Many houses are built along the water's edge and climb up the hills, making it a beautiful place to live.
Saratoga is found in the middle part of its peninsula. It shares borders with Davistown towards the tip and Yattalunga closer to the mainland.
History of Saratoga
Long ago, the area where Saratoga is now was used by Indigenous peoples. Later, in 1863, a European family led by John Bourke settled here. They started growing citrus fruits, like oranges and lemons. John Bourke became a very important person in growing citrus fruits for sale around Brisbane Water.
Over time, more buildings appeared. A famous house called 'Rosemount' was built in 1917. It's a beautiful old house that you can still see today. In recent years, many new houses have been built. This has turned Saratoga into a busy residential suburb of Gosford. Because it's surrounded by water on three sides, Saratoga is also a popular spot for fishing and water sports.
Life in Saratoga
Most people who live in Saratoga travel to nearby towns for their daily needs. They often go to Gosford, Kincumber, or Erina for work or shopping. Not many people work right in Saratoga itself.
However, Saratoga does have a small shopping area on Village Road. Here you can find a petrol station, a general store, a hairdresser, and a newsagency. There's also a place to buy drinks, a pharmacy, two takeaway food shops, a bakery, and a jeweller.
Schools and Sports
Brisbania Public School is located in Saratoga. It's a primary school found at the corner of High Street and Davistown Road.
Saratoga is also home to a junior Australian Football Club called the Saratoga Hawks. This club was started in 2001 and is a great way for young people to play Australian Rules Football.
