Saratoga Springs is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States. It sits at an elevation of about 4,505 feet above sea level. This city is part of the larger Provo–Orem Metropolitan Area.

Saratoga Springs is a newer city located along the northwestern shores of Utah Lake. It officially became a town on December 31, 1997, and has been growing very quickly since then. By the 2020 Census, its population had reached 37,696 people. Saratoga Springs officially became a city in 2001.

About the City's Land

Saratoga Springs covers an area of about 16.6 square miles (26.8 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.1 square mile (0.3 square kilometers), is water, which mostly comes from Utah Lake.

A Look at Saratoga Springs History

The area around Saratoga Springs was first settled because of its natural hot springs. These springs are located near the start of the Jordan River. Early settlers were inspired to create a resort there called Beck's Saratoga Springs. It was named after a famous resort in New York and its owner, John Beck.

The Beck family opened their resort in 1884. It had several lodge buildings and fun amusement park facilities. This made it a very popular spot for tourists and visitors. The original buildings are no longer there. Today, the resort area has been rebuilt privately. It now includes an outdoor pool, a clubhouse, and kitchen facilities for groups and parties.

In the early 1990s, landowners started thinking about building homes and businesses around the hot springs and in the nearby Lake Mountains. The rules for land development in Utah County were not quite ready for a big city. So, several landowners decided to make the area its own town. Saratoga Springs officially became a town in December 1997.

Since then, the city has grown a lot, adding more land. It now stretches in a narrow strip from north to south. It runs between Utah Lake and the Jordan River on the east side, and the foothills to the west. The city covers more than 21 square miles. It goes from Pelican Point on the west side of Utah Lake for over eleven miles north to the Camp Williams US Army base.

On April 2, 2017, Thomas S. Monson, who was the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time, announced that a temple for the church would be built in Saratoga Springs. The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple was open for public tours from April to July 2023. It was officially dedicated on August 13, 2023.

In June 2020, a wildfire called the Knolls Fire caused about 13,000 people to leave their homes in Saratoga Springs for safety.

By 2013, the library had become so popular that the city council decided it needed to be a full-time library. As of August 2022, the library has over 8,000 people with library cards. It also has more than 24,000 books and other items. The library offers many programs for residents, like science nights, story times for younger kids, and a place to get help with reading.
