Sasha Pieterse Sheaffer (born February 17, 1996) is an actress and singer from South Africa and the United States. She is best known for playing Alison DiLaurentis in the TV show Pretty Little Liars (2010–2017). She also appeared in its spin-off show Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists (2019). These roles made her famous around the world.
Sasha first gained attention for her roles as Buffy Davis in Family Affair (2002-2003). She also played Marissa Electricidad / Ice Princess in the movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (2005). After these, she had smaller roles in other films and TV shows. Later, her role in Pretty Little Liars made her very well-known. Because Pretty Little Liars was so popular, Sasha also starred in movies like Disney Channel's Geek Charming (2011) and the teen comedy G.B.F (2013). She also appeared in drama films like Coin Heist (2017) and The Honor List (2018).
Pieterse was a contestant on the 25th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2017. Besides acting, she also sings and models. She was a judge on TV shows like Beat Bobby Flay and Sugar Rush Christmas in 2020.

Early life
Sasha Pieterse was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 17, 1996. In 2001, her family moved to the United States. She grew up in Las Vegas before moving to Los Angeles. Sasha started her career in entertainment at a young age. Her parents were professional acrobatic dance team members who performed all over the world. Sasha was taught at home and finished school when she was 14 years old.
Career
Modeling work
Sasha Pieterse started modeling and appearing in commercials when she was four years old. At five, she was in an advertisement for Wenner Bread Products. Later, her picture was on a big billboard for the hair salon SuperCuts. She also modeled for Macy's Passport fashion show. Sasha has been featured in many magazines, including the covers of BELLO's "Young Hollywood" issue (December 2014) and Seventeen (August 2016).
Film and television roles
Sasha began her TV career at age six. In 2002, she co-starred as Buffy in The WB's new version of the sitcom Family Affair. She also appeared in an episode of Stargate SG-1 called “Grace”. In 2005, she was a guest star on House in an episode called "Autopsy". In this episode, she played Andie, a young girl with a serious illness.
That same year, Sasha made her first movie appearance in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. She played Marissa, the Ice Princess. She also appeared in two episodes of the TV show Wanted as Millie Rose.
In 2007, Sasha was in the movie Good Luck Chuck. She played a young goth girl who puts a curse on the main character. She also played the younger version of another character in the 2007 film The Air I Breathe. Sasha also had a main role in the Hallmark movie Claire, which came out in 2007.
In late 2009, when Sasha was 13, she was cast in the TV show Pretty Little Liars (2010–2017). She played Alison DiLaurentis, who was once the most popular girl in her high school group. She was a regular character for the first four seasons and became a main character in the fifth season. The show became very popular and had many fans. Sasha played Alison again in the spin-off show Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists in 2019. In this show, Alison is grown up and works as a teaching assistant at Beacon Heights University.
Other roles Sasha has had include an appearance in Without a Trace in 2009. She also had a recurring role as Amanda Strazzulla in Heroes. In 2011, she played Amy Loubalu in the Disney Channel Original Movie Geek Charming. She also had a small role as a teenage girl in the film X-Men: First Class. Later, Sasha appeared in the movie G.B.F. and an episode of Hawaii Five-0.
In September 2017, Sasha was announced as a contestant on the 25th season of Dancing with the Stars. She danced with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko. They were the fourth couple to be eliminated from the show.
In August 2021, it was announced that Sasha was cast in the Netflix movie Ivy + Bean. This movie is based on the popular New York Times bestselling book series by Annie Barrows. In July 2023, it was reported that Sasha was cast in the thriller film The Image of You (2024). In this movie, she plays two roles as twin sisters, Anna and Zoe.
Music career
Sasha Pieterse describes her music as "country with southern rock". Her first single, "This Country Is Bad Ass", was released on April 12, 2013. Sasha said she loves America and is thankful for the opportunities she has had there. Her second song, "R.P.M", came out on June 13, 2013.
Her third song, "I Can't Fix You", was released on July 12, 2013. On December 10, 2013, she released her fourth song, "No". This is an upbeat song about being strong and saying no when someone who was not loyal asks for another chance.
Other projects
Sasha Pieterse's cookbook, Sasha in Good Taste: Recipes for Bites, Feasts, Sips & Celebrations, was published on October 8, 2019. In the book, Sasha shares recipes for cooking and baking. She also gives tips for planning parties that don't cost too much. The book also has do it yourself projects and ideas for desserts.
Sasha also has a lifestyle website called "Sasha in Good Taste".
She is very popular online and on social media. As of January 2023, she has over 16 million followers on Instagram. She promotes products like beauty and wellness items on Instagram. She has also worked with companies like Lightlife Foods and Pokémon Go.
Personal life
On December 22, 2015, Sasha Pieterse got engaged to her long-time boyfriend Hudson Sheaffer. They got married on May 27, 2018, in Glaslough, Ireland. On May 27, 2020, Sasha announced that she and Hudson were going to have their first child. Their son was born in November 2020. As of 2022, the family lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
At the start of Dancing with the Stars season 25, Sasha shared that she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. This condition can cause symptoms like irregular periods and weight gain.
Sasha Pieterse can speak Afrikaans, English, and French.
